Another lesson from the market
This evening, I went to Lucky Plaza to get a DSLR lens for my brother. I know people have bad impressions of the shops there. But apparently, out of the 10 shops I called, only this shop had the stock for this particular lens. I read in the forum that this shop is one of the recommended shops for camera, so I decided to give it a try. I asked a friend, who is a photographer, to accompany me.
We met at 705pm at Orchard MRT and walked straight to the shop. When we asked the person about the product, he said it was out of stock! >< I was so disappointed. I called the shop twice and the person said they had the item!
Then never mind, we left and went to another shop. When we asked whether they had the lens, the guy said "399." I was shocked. The other shops I called quoted sgd 380 inclusive of tax. Some quoted sgd 360. But all didn't have the item. This shop asked for sgd 399? Referring to my pevious post on bargaining, I was really hesitant to bargain. But since I knew the market rate for this lens, I asked for 360. Nett. Inclusive of tax!
Then the guy said,"You can claim for the tax what!" to which my friend replied "No, we can't. We're not tourists." Then we were about to leave. We said "Never mind. We'll take a look at other shops first." And then, that guy said "Wait wait, let me check for you." He went inside looking for the item. I said to my friend, "I would only buy it if it's 370 inclusive of tax. Not more than that. If he's selling it more than that, I won't buy it." A few seconds later, the guy came back and said "Sorry, no stock."
-_-
My friend had told me that sometimes shop owners said they had the item when we called, even though in fact, they didn't! It is quite a common thing, he says. And that's exactly what happened tonight!
Aaarrghhh... I feel so irritated with this kind of irresponsible way of doing business =( It took me more than 1 hour to travel to that place and you're telling me out-of-stock? Why didn't you tell me when I called you TWICE? >< Not so much about my 'sacrifice' of 1 hour travel that gets me irritated, but the fact that I was being lied! I don't like being lied. Noone does!
I'm so disappointed =(
This kind of experience makes me even harder to trust people, to trust sellers, to trust businessmen. I know I can't generalize, but if bad experience keeps happening, I think it may have some truth in it.
Why are you people ruining people's trust? =(
